Browns DE Chad Thomas Immobilized and Carted Off Field At Practice
By Michael Luciano
Cleveland Browns defense end Chad Thomas figured to have a breakout season under new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks during his second year in the league. However, his rise to the top of the Browns depth chart could be put on hold indefinitely after a frightening injury he sustained in practice Monday.
While it isn't clear how he was injured, Thomas was put on a stretcher and carted off of the field in the middle of practice. The team was left in stunned silence.
After picking up 9 sacks over his last two seasons at the University of Miami, Thomas was selected in the third round, 67th overall, in the 2018 NFL Draft. Due to the presence of Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah on the edge, he rarely saw the field and did not record any tackles as a rookie.
Still, Thomas has an intriguing blend of size and speed, and figured to slide into the regular rotation this season if he could put together a strong camp.
All that's suddenly on hold as the team and its fans anxiously await some good news.
Thomas' health is now the main concern, and everyone around the team and the league will be wishing Thomas a speedy recovery.
