NFL Insider Ian Rapoport Provides Update on Suspended Browns Star Myles Garrett
By Jerry Trotta
The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers were involved in one of the most unpleasant incidents in recent NFL memory during Week 11 of the 2019 season.
Defensive end Myles Garrett starred in the melee, losing his mind (and potentially much more) when he decided to rip the helmet off of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and assault him with it. Garrett was promptly suspended indefinitely by the league, and many analysts expected that ban to extend into the 2020 campaign. Well, that may not be the case following his meeting with Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, as reported by league insider Ian Rapoport.
As Rapoport notes, there has been no official word from the NFL on his reinstatement, but the current buzz is that the league believes Garrett has served his time, is sufficiently contrite, and will be reinstated before long.
Garrett has kept a reasonably low profile over the course of his ban, but he's reportedly been taking the necessary steps off the field to return to the good graces of the commissioner.
Those strides include community service and attending mandatory counseling sessions.
If Goodell does proceed to lift Garrett's ban in the near future, the former No. 1 overall pick would be able to join the Browns for their offseason program, which begins in the beginning of April.
