Browns Taking High-Upside LSU Safety Grant Delpit in 2nd Round Should Fix Secondary Woes
By Mark Powell

The Cleveland Browns desperately needed help in their defensive backfield entering the 2020 offseason. So, why not select the guy who won the Jim Thorpe Award, which is awarded annually to the best defensive back in college football?
Grant Delpit's draft stock took a bit of a hit over the course of the 2019 season despite being a projected surefire first-round selection entering the campaign. Despite falling further than initially anticipated, Delpit's potential as a hard-hitting safety is as strong as ever, and Browns fans should be excited.

Delpit was an All-American in 2018, but fell off some last year due to several key missed tackles and an inability to stay healthy.
Yet, Delpit goes to a team which needs his services perhaps more than any other. Cleveland was in on the Vikings' Anthony Harris before those talks fell through, and already added Karl Joseph this offseason. With all the weapons Cleveland possesses offensively, it's moot if the other side of the ball can't make stops.
Grant Delpit started as a true freshman for LSU and averaged over 8 picks + PBUs a year at safety. Even with the tackling issues I feel like he's being overthought.

A+ first two picks for the Browns
Delpit has a knock for tracking down the ball when it's in the air, and that ought to come in handy as the Browns defend the likes of Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow and Ben Roethlisberger in a pass-heavy league.
