Former Browns head coach Hue Jackson announced that he is releasing a book that is due to come out sometime in January. It is expected that he will discuss his behind-the-scenes experiences as a head coach in the NFL, and more specifically, as a Black head coach in the NFL.

One story that fans might hope makes an appearance? The fact that Jackson had his eye on a specific quarterback in the 2017 offseason, former 49er starter Colin Kaepernick.

Jackson wanted Kap after the Niners QB opted out of his contract in San Francisco. Whether or not it was about finances, wanting to go in another direction or a completely different reason, the match was never made.

How did it turn out on both sides? Kaepernick still remains a free agent as he has not played since 2016. Jackson went 1-15 during the 2016 season and followed it up with an 0-16 season in the following year. He was fired midway through the 2018 campaign.

While Jackson claims that he wanted Kaepernick, plenty of football fans will swear that Hue is not telling the complete truth. Look no further than who actually played QB for him during those years in The Land.

Being that the front office makes the final decisions, Jackson cannot be fully blamed for missing on some of the best young quarterback talent in today’s NFL. All told, however, he deserves to have a say in his own words.
