Jimmy and Dee Haslam Donating $1.5 Million to Coronavirus Relief is Probably Their Best Move as Browns Owners

The Cleveland Browns have been busy this offseason, adding a series of smart, affordable signings to bolster their ranks for the 2020 season. Not to be lost in the shuffle, however, is their latest move, one that comes from all the way at the top of the organization.

Majority owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam are pledging $1.5 million to coronavirus relief organizations in Ohio.

The Haslams are billionaires, owning to their lucrative station running the Pilot Flying J truck stop company originally founded by Jimmy's father, James Arthur "Jim" Haslam II. To see them coming thorugh with a major donation in a time of need such as this is encouraging. In an offseason that has seen the likes of Case Keenum, Austin Hooper and Jack Conklin sign with the Browns, this financial pledge stands alone.

In fact, it might just be the single best, most decent thing the Haslams have done as owners of the franchise.

The Browns had themselves a false start in 2019, responding to massive buzz and admittedly unfair expectations by putting up a 6-10 record. They'll have every chance to improve on that mark in 2020, but the ones that sign the checks rightly recognize that public health and safety must be placed above all else.
