Browns LB Christian Kirksey to Undergo Surgery to Fix Chest Issue and Miss 2019 Season
By Kevin Aquino

After a little more than a week on the IR, Browns LB Christian Kirksey is officially being ruled out for the rest of the season in order to repair a torn pectoral muscle.
The 27-year-old was pristine in terms of availability through his first four seasons in the NFL, but played only seven games last year, being hampered by a hamstring injury.
#Browns LB Christian Kirksey recently had surgery to repair the chest injury that led to him being placed on Injured Reserve more than a week ago. While there was some initial thought that he could return, the surgery indicates he's done for the season.

In two games this season -- both of which he started -- the former Iowa Hawkeye put together 11 combined tackles (six solo). Now that Kirksey is ruled out for the entirety of the year, rookie Mack Wilson will be head coach Freddie Kitchens' starter in his LB spot, with Malik Jefferson slated to back him up.
Freddie Kitchens is pleased with the play of rookie LB Mack Wilson, who has started the last two games in place of the injured Christian Kirksey: "I think he's doing a great job. I think he's going to continue to do a great job and continue to get better."

Losing a starter is a blow to any team, but with a big win over the Ravens during Week 4, Cleveland has a full head of steam going into their matchup with the undefeated 49ers. But looking at the bigger picture, they'll need Wilson to step up in Kirksey's long-term absence. The offense can't carry the day every week, after all.
