Browns Need Baker Mayfield to Follow Through on His Claims That He Won't Respond to Critics in 2020
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield faced his fair share of criticism this past season, and his response to the comments wasn't always particularly graceful.
Mayfield made the media rounds Friday on an appearance on ESPN's Get Up, and while speaking to Rex Ryan, with whom he has history, the quarterback vowed to shut out the outside noise and stop responding to the critics.
The young quarterback will actually have to follow through on this newfound humility and not respond to the many critics who will continue to talk about him this offseason.
Knowing Mayfield will be doing his all to refrain from responding may also fuel the frequency in which some of his harsher critics come after him, so this may prove a more difficult test than initially anticipated for the third-year quarterback.
It is easy to say Mayfield "won the day" speaking with the different media outlets. Though he also "won" the end of the 2018 season and fans rallied behind him calling out the haters before the 2019 season began. Then the losing and regression came and his words just looked immature.
Browns fans are too jaded to immediately accept Mayfield's words from Friday. He will have to spend the entire year not calling out analysts and not yelling at reporters for most to come around and start to believe him.
If the Browns want to get things together this year under Kevin Stefanski, Mayfield will have to live up to his claims that he can drown out the noise.
