Browns Reportedly Hire Bengals QB Coach Alex Van Pelt as OC
The Cleveland Browns continue to make changes this offseason, the most recent of which was to find new head coach Kevin Stefanski an offensive coordinator.
The team has reportedly decided on Alex Van Pelt for the role.
Van Pelt joins the Browns after spending two years as the quarterbacks coach with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has been coaching since 2005 after a playing career that lasted from 1993-2003.
Browns fans may be wary of the hire because Van Pelt has only been an offensive coordinator once before. That came in 2009 with the Buffalo Bills when Van Pelt was promoted at the start of the season after Turk Schonert was fired. Van Pelt himself was let go after the season.
Van Pelt's biggest resume builder comes from his four seasons as the QB coach in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers. That experience is invaluable and should help him earn respect the second he enters the facility.
Not one individual has been able to make the Browns an offensive juggernaut since 1999. The talent is now the best it has ever been and Van Pelt is the latest man trying to do the impossible. Perhaps he has been the missing link all along.
