Browns Reportedly Interested in Trading for Giants OL Nate Solder
By Jerry Trotta
The NFL's trade deadline has not disappointed thus far, and the rumors are likely to keep flowing until Oct. 29 comes and goes.
Per insider Jason La Canfora, the Cleveland Browns have expressed interest in trading for New York Giants veteran offensive lineman Nate Solder.
Their curiosity, however, is highly dependent upon their efforts to poach All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams from the Washington Redskins.
Canfora wisely notes the Browns and Giants have previously done a lot of business together, a narrative that could work in their favor in terms of reaching an agreement. Of course, the G-Men dealt superstar wideout Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland in the offseason in exchange for a first-round pick, a third-rounder, and defensive back Jabrill Peppers.
Flash forward to current events, and the Browns are simply desperate for OL help. Baker Mayfield, though he's been staggeringly erratic through the first seven weeks of 2019, has been getting eaten alive in the backfield.
Not many quarterbacks in the league would boast an alluring stat line if they were running for their lives in the backfield to avoid a sack.
The problem regarding this rumor is the fact that Solder has markedly underperformed since signing a four-year, $62 million contract with the Giants last offseason, even though he'd serve as an upgrade to what Cleveland is currently deploying at left tackle.
Will the two teams end up striking a deal? We'll find out soon enough.
