Browns Rumors About Giant Jadeveon Clowney Offer Seem a Little Fishy

Jadeveon Clowney remains a free agent this offseason as he is reportedly holding out for a giant contract just a few million dollars short of his original $20 million per-season asking price.

That is why it was so confusing to hear the report from Adam Schefter in which the ESPN analyst claimed Clowney turned down a monster offer from the Cleveland Browns.

At first it is easy to hear this news and immediately make fun of Cleveland and the Browns for not being able to land Clowney even after offering him the most money. Yet this doesn't make logical sense. If it is all about the money for Clowney, why wouldn't he take the offer he is asking for?

The answer may be that the Browns did not meet his demands, but only have the highest offer. Former NFL player and current analyst Pat McAfee immediately questioned Schefter's report.

The Browns would be a great fit and Clowney would realistically boost his numbers thanks to Myles Garrett being on the other side of the line. McAfee leads the chorus of those wondering if Schefter leaving out the actual numbers of the deal means the Browns didn't come close to reaching Clowney's demands.

Cleveland has been the laughingstock of the NFL for quite some time. But things are beginning to turn around and there is no doubt the team is stacked in terms of talent. It is possible Clowney does not want to play there. However, it would be insane to turn down a multi-year offer worth around $20 million annually if no other team is getting close to that.

In the end, we're not sure what to think.
