The Cleveland Browns have plenty of holes that they need to address hard and fast once free agency kicks off and the draft comes closer, but finding a backup for Baker Mayfield appears to be at or near the top of their list.

The Browns are expected to pursue former Chicago Bears backup Chase Daniel, who will turn 34 during the middle of next season, when he becomes available.

Maybe adding to an offensive line on which Greg Robinson was a starter last year should be a bigger priority? Just thinking out loud.

Daniel has been making a living as a clipboard holder for nearly a decade after his tremendous college career at Missouri. Injuries to Mitch Trubisky have finally forced him into action in Chicago, and he has thrown six touchdowns and four interceptions on 6.8 yards per attempt in three starts with the Bears.

Currently, Mayfield is being backed up by subpar veteran Drew Stanton and former AAF star Garrett Gilbert. Daniel is at least an upgrade when compared those two.

Daniel would grab another backup job behind Mayfield as the unquestioned No. 1, while he gets to hang back and keep raking in the cash that comes with being an NFL quarterback. Nothing but respect for Daniel, who keeps finessing team after team.
