VIDEO: Browns Tease New Uniforms That Could Return to Traditional Look
By Michael Luciano
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons unveiled brand new uniforms in the last few days, with one team returning to their classic uniforms and the other going in a bold new direction. The Cleveland Browns might follow Tampa Bay's lead based on a Twitter video that confirmed they will get new threads for 2020 in the coming days. We can't see much, but images of the jersey numbers of Browns legends like Jim Brown and Clay Matthews indicate that the new jerseys will look more like the Browns jerseys we grew up with.
Cleveland unveiled a new set of uniforms in 2015, which coincided with a change to a darker shade of orange as the team's primary color. While the color change and brown alternate jerseys were all considered wins for the rebrand, many didn't like how the new jerseys put a giant "CLEVELAND" in block text on the chestplate. The move to either brown or white pants was also criticized.
Many fans are hoping that the Browns return to their classic uniform that they wore since they returned to the NFL in 1999, which feature a much more muted orange helmet, alternating stripes on the shoulderpads, and orange pants.
Cleveland had one of the most classic uniform combinations in the NFL, so returning to that clean, simple look should make the Browns a slightly more watchable on-field product.
