The Browns Need to Make One Last Big Move and Trade up in NFL Draft for Isaiah Simmons
By Michael Luciano
The Cleveland Browns have made a few big moves this offseason, the signing of right tackle Jack Conklin in free agency chief among them, but there is still one more blockbuster to be made.
Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons would be an ideal replacement for Joe Schobert in the middle of the Cleveland defense, but they will likely need to trade up from the No. 10 spot in the 2020 NFL Draft in order to take him.
Simmons stands at 6-4 and around 230 pounds, but his 4.39 speed makes him a candidate to start right away at inside linebacker or at safety, where he played most of his snaps during his final year at Clemson.
The first three picks in the 2020 draft are almost set, as Joe Burrow, Chase Young and Jeff Okudah are expected to go to the Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions, respectively. The New York Giants at pick No. 4 remain a potential Simmons landing spot, and the same goes for the Carolina Panthers at No. 7 and the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 9.
Cleveland is stuck at pick No. 10, but this is a good chance for Andrew Berry to show how aggressive a GM he is. Give up a pick or two in order to move up and secure the right to the phenom linebacker.
Simmons is almost a lock to go in the top-10 this year, but the Browns can't afford to sit back and be passive if he's the guy they want. Give up a few picks in order to get a truly unique player who could start at linebacker and safety on Day 1.
