Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is no stranger to controversy, and he'll never shy away from giving reporters his honest opinion. It's part and parcel to his brand.

After his most recent dismissive comments regarding running back Duke Johnson Jr.'s trade request, however, the Cleveland media and their fan base weren't too pleased. Apparently, neither were some of his teammates.

It's been reported numerous times this offseason that Duke Johnson wants out of Cleveland. He himself voiced his displeasure on his current status with the Browns during voluntary workouts, and once Mayfield heard what the running back had to say, he told members of the media that the problem was "self-inflicted."

"It is what it is. It's not awkward for anybody else in this building," he said.

Mayfield will always speak his mind, whether we like it or not. But discussing another player's trade request openly to the media isn't a great look for the leader of the team (or anyone, for that matter). With that in mind, Browns veterans were right to approach Mayfield to discuss their grievances and air out their concerns with how he handled himself.

Having an open dialogue among players is a key ingredient to having a cohesive locker room. Hopefully, Mayfield uses this as a learning experience and avoids statements as candid as this in the future.
