Bruce Arians Weighs in on Tua Tagovailoa for Some Reason But Makes a Tremendous Point

The Miami Dolphins took a risk in drafting Tua Tagovailoa in this year's NFL Draft. The talent was unquestioned, but his health was, as he's recovering from a hip injury that left him sidelined in his final season at Alabama.

Tagovailoa may need time to return to his former self and should take all the time necessary to do so, perhaps delaying his rookie campaign. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians offered a different opinion, however.

Speaking to 100.9 FM, Arians stated, "I think it all depends on his health; if he’s healthy I’m playing him." Now there's nothing wrong with that comment, but it's what he says next that raises some eyebrows.

"I don't think you learn anything holding a clipboard. You know, I had Peyton Manning his first year, Andrew Luck his first year, Ben [Roethlisberger] was one of those guys that went in by accident because Tommy Maddox got hurt. You miss all the practice reps, you miss the game reps. I don't know what you learn holding a clipboard watching."

Ryan Fitzpatrick could be the perfect teacher for Tagovailoa, but Arians does not feel that way, insisting that quarterbacks learn much more by playing.

Arians may actually have a point, too. Quarterbacks are sometimes kept on the sidelines for too long, missing out on valuable experience when they're capable of learning the most (with the exception of Patrick Mahomes). For a guy as talented as Tagovailo, Arians doesn't see a point in sitting him if he's cleared.
