Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues is set for Wednesday night. Whatever the result, a ton of storylines are expected to come out this spectacular series.

One storyline that has gotten a bit buried among the others is David Backes' playoff run, which has come to an end shorter than he would have liked.

The former captain of St. Louis and current Bruins' forward will have to watch the last game of the season from the press box in TD Garden. Backes has been announced as a healthy scratch for Game 7, which shows how far he has fell since joining the Bruins.

Backes has never been in a Stanley Cup Final until this year, and will finish with only playing four of a possible seven games. In his four games he failed to register a point and has been a healthy scratch since Game 5. This was his third season as a Bruin, and it was the lowest point total (20) of his career.

The Bruins will go with Karson Kuhlman, who scored his first career playoff goal in Game 6, as opposed to the 35-year-old veteran forward. It won't be easy for Backes to watch from the box, but you can bet he'll be cheering on his squad.
