Bubba Wallace is part of a small group of African-Americans who have raced at NASCAR's highest level, and the 26-year-old has taken that opportunity to speak out recently about his personal experiences with racism and oppression in this country.

Wallace is racing Sunday in Atlanta, and joined in on the protests taking place around the country and the world by wearing a "Black Lives Matter" shirt that was shown on the broadcast.

His shirt reads "I Can't Breathe" in big bold letters and refers to the words of the late George Floyd (and Eric Garner before him), whose death has sparked a wave of social change. Wallace's protest is silent, but as usual, there were some terrible things to be found in the replies to tweets showing Wallace and his shirt.

That makes the protest itself even more relevant.

Wallace is young and is using his platform for good, just like athletes in other leagues. NASCAR is not often a place where issues of social justice are discussed, but the young driver has a chance to change that, and it will be telling based on how other drivers respond.

Based on the supportive videos we've seen on Sunday, it's already working.

Solidarity.
