Byron Jones Talks About Split With Cowboys and Why He Decided on Dolphins
By Michael Luciano
The Dallas Cowboys knew that the contracts of Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper were going to eat up a large portion of their salary cap, and that knowledge excluded them from making a serious psuh to retain star cornerback Byron Jones this offseason.
Jones signed a five-year deal with the Miami Dolphins that made the former UConn star the highest paid cornerback in all of football. Jones said what really attracted him to the Dolphins was the roster the team was building and head coach Brian Flores.
Well, I'm sure the $82 million helped as well.
Jones, who converted to cornerback from safety, will give Miami one of the best CB tandems in the league with him on one side and Xavien Howard on the other. Miami's defense is still a work in progress, but they finally have a cornerstone they can build around in Jones.
Jones might not have the crazy high turnover numbers that most starting cornerbacks in the league have, but he has the coverage skills, tackling ability, and football IQ to become a star in Miami.
