Calvin Johnson Has Savage Response for How Lions Can Repair Relationship With Him
By Sean Facey
The Detroit Lions and superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson have been on bad terms ever since he retired back in 2016.
When asked how the two parties could repair their relationship, however, Megatron kept his answer curt. And incredibly savage.
“The only way they’re going to get me back is they put that money back in my pocket," he said, per the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett.
Johnson is referencing a chunk of his $16 million bonus from 2011 that the franchise forced him to pay back after he announced his retirement. The franchise pulled a move when legendary running back Barry Sanders called it quits.
The Lions have desperately wanted to repair their relationship with Johnson, but the financial dispute is a massive sticking point.
Johnson has the right to be mad. It was an incredibly disrespectful gesture for the Lions to force him to pay back part of a bonus that he earned. They should have been more courteous as he was on his way out the door.
If they had just treated the franchise icon with dignity in the first place, then none of this would be a problem. And yet, here we are.
