Cam Jordan Clarifies George Floyd Comments While Disagreeing With Attention-Grabbing Headline
By Scott Rogust
The protests taking place across the country to combat racial discrimination and police brutality against African-Americans have taken centerstage. This all stems from the death of George Floyd, an unarmed, 46-year-old black man who died in the custody of four Minneapolis police officers.
Many athletes have spoken out about Floyd's death, including New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan to local radio station WWL105.3 FM. Unfortunately, the radio station misconstrued his words when translating the interview into the article. The headline reads, "police target black people, and all people have to change that."
Jordan saw this, and clarified his comments, saying that African-American men feel like they're being targeted by police.
As it turns out, Jordan wasn't the only NFL star to spot the bait-y header. Baltimore Ravens running back Mark Ingram saw it as well, and told Jordan not to stress out over it.
Jordan is an advocate for peaceful protesting, but says that people of color can't be the only ones to speak out against institutionalized racism. It's going to take humans of every race to raise awareness for these injustices.
Additionally, Jordan is a father to 4-year-old son Tank, and he doesn't want him to be another statistic like Floyd once he grows older. He wants there to be change in our communities and police force so he doesn't have to worry about his well-being.
Jordan wanted to use his popularity to motivate others to fight the good fight. Unfortunately, his plan was almost curtailed thanks to a misleading headline.
