Cam Newton's Contract and Injury Situation Could End Panthers Era
By Michael Luciano

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is undoubtedly the greatest signal caller the franchise has ever seen, but his increasing injury issues, with his foot injury the latest major concern, could bring about the end of the Newton era in Charlotte.
Cam could make $18.6 million as a starter next year before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2021, but the Panthers could cut him after this season and only have to deal with $2 million in dead cap.
In the wake of his doctor’s visit this week, #Panthers QB Cam Newton is out at least the next several weeks, but no surgery was recommended. He now has a decision to make. My story: https://t.co/adCItCRdaV

Part of the reason the Panthers could part with Newton after this season is the fact that they have one of the deepest quarterback rooms in the league. Kyle Allen has proven himself to be at least a serviceable starter in this league, and the team invested a third-round pick in Will Grier, who is still oozing potential.
Allen, who will start this week against the Titans, should be considered the favorite to start in 2020 at this point, not Cam.

It remains to be seen if Allen can recapture his old form or if Grier will amount to anything at the pro level, but it looks more likely with each passing day that Carolina will roll with one of them next season as they jettison Cam.
