Cameron Maybin Returns to Yankees as Corresponding Move for Stephen Tarpley

After Masahiro Tanaka surrendered seven runs in the bottom of the first at Fenway Park on Thursday, many assumed the Yanks would burn out their bullpen once again, cashing in sacrificial relief lamb Stephen Tarpley for another arm on Friday morning.

Well, Tarpley was demoted after the game, of course, but Tanaka wore it for as long as he could, and the Yanks used only three pitchers (and Austin Romine) in this disaster.

Following the contest, Aaron Boone hinted that an outfielder might be joining the club the next day. And that outfielder? Cameron Maybin, fresh off a shorter-than-expected IL stint!

Yes, Clint Frazier remains down in the minors, but honestly, what else was this team supposed to do? Not return their injured spark plug in Maybin? Demote Mike Tauchman?! Give us a break.

Maybin comes back to energize a Yankee team that could really use a wakeup after Thursday's debacle; he was red hot before hitting the shelf, batting .314 with a .391 OBP for a surging ball club.

Hammerin' Cameron returns, and not a moment too soon.
