By Evan Wolff
If there is ever a time that any sports news is welcomed with open arms, that time is now in these days of the coronavirus. Luckily, the boxing world has gifted us with a gold nugget that should have fight fans excited for the future: GGG vs. Canelo 3!
The rivalry between Gennadiy Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez sounds like it's finally due to reach a conclusion, as the two sides have reportedly agreed to a trilogy fight. Alvarez, who gave GGG his first career loss in 2018 after first fighting to a controversial draw, will look to add to his incredible 53-1 record when the two will square off as soon as Sept. 12.
In light of everything that's been canceled or postponed around the sports, fans have been resigned to a level of disappointment never seen before. With that in mind, it's something of a godsend to hear some promising news at long last.
The COVID-19 pandemic feels endless. It's a legitimate cause of fear and anxiety. To know that there's some normalcy to look forward to down the line is worth standing up and cheering for.
We could have ourselves an unprecedented second half of the year in sports. With everything being pushed back like it is, the opportunity to witness long-awaited top-line events is juicy. Let's all come together and hope that Sept. 12 gives us an instant classic.
