Canelo Alvarez's Next Fight Confirmed Against Billy Joe Saunders on May 2
By Evan Wolff
Canelo Alvarez, at the relatively young age of 29, has already cemented himself in history as one of the greatest middleweight boxers of all-time. After his emphatic knockout of Sergey Kovalev just outside of Las Vegas in November, he extended his impressive unbeaten streak to 12 fights (11 wins, 1 draw).
Now another fighter will have a crack at being the first fighter to defeat Canelo since Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in 2013. British boxer Billy Joe Saunders, who holds the super-middleweight title, will take on the legendary Alvarez on May 2 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
It's an intriguing fight for boxing fans, as Alvarez will have to move up a weight class against a man who is certainly no slouch. Saunders last fought in November at the Staples Center, and moved to a 29-0 professional career record with a knockout win over Marcelo Esteban Coceres. If there is anyone who won't be bulldozed by Canelo Alvarez, it is "Superb" Saunders.
After the awesome spectacle that was the Fury/Wilder rematch, this is certainly another boxing super-fight that fans should have circled on their calendars.
