MLB Players Team up With Adam Wainwright's Charity to Fight Childhood Hunger With 'Home Plate Project'

Professional athletes all over the country have been doing their part to help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some players, such as St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright, have also been doing non-profit work for years, so this is just another day at work for him.
Wainwright runs a charity called Big League Impact, which he founded in 2013. He linked up with country music star Garth Brooks, who started his own charity to help children in need in 1999, to do something truly special. The two have come together on the "Home Plate Project," and with the help of players across the league, they've raised nearly $1 million to help children in every MLB community.
Excited to be a part of #HomePlateProject to help support the over 20 million kids who rely on schools for their meals. With schools closed because of COVID-19, @BigLeagueImpact partnered with @teammates4kids & @MLB to provide over 4 million meals in every MLB community! pic.twitter.com/6Yse8VVXu8

The goal is to provide meals to children who need them and who may rely on school lunches for their daily food. Obviously, COVID-19 shutdowns have left some children without those meals they rely on. As a result, the expedited charity is helping get the job done in a time of crisis for many.
As part of MLB's Home Plate Project, we're proud to donate to the @accfb to help provide items for OUSD's "Grab and Go" meal service for Oakland children and families. To learn more and to view a list of pick-up locations, visit https://t.co/d1rrWRPht5. https://t.co/SIcaeRQ2MQ

Hopefully more players from around the league will see what their teammates have done and contribute as well. Big names like Clayton Kershaw and Albert Pujols taking part should mean a lot to Wainwright as his program with Brooks has expanded into an MLB-wide venture.
