Cardinals and A's Reportedly Showing Interested in Free Agent Catcher Matt Wieters
By Michael Luciano

The free agent pool is getting smaller and smaller, and one of the best catching options left on the market could be poached within the next few days.
Free agent catcher Matt Wieters' market has been heating up of late, with the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals, his employer last year, reportedly at the head of the pack.

Wieters, a former top prospect with the Orioles who spent eight seasons with Baltimore and two with the Washington Nationals, has 146 home runs over his 11-year career and a solid 18.4 WAR.
In 67 games as a Cardinal in 2019, Wieters slashed .214/.268/.435 with 11 home runs and 27 RBI.
The Cardinals clearly value the power and experience that he can offer in the clubhouse, as it helped them claw their way to an NLCS appearance last season.

Due to the presence of Yadier Molina, Oakland might represent a chance at more regular playing time for Wieters than St. Louis.
