Cardinals Designate Luke Voit Trade Piece and Former Yankee Chasen Shreve for Assignment
By Adam Weinrib

A return to St. Louis for former Yankees lefty Chasen Shreve will be disastrously short-lived.
The 29-year-old hurler was brought back to the bigs just a few short days ago, but will lose his roster spot once again on Tuesday after hanging on for dear life in extra innings Monday night in Pittsburgh.
We have activated RHP Mike Mayers from the 60-day IL and designated LHP Chasen Shreve for assignment.

Additionally, Matt Carpenter will begin an injury rehabilitation assignment tonight with Memphis (AAA). pic.twitter.com/zqRjEPff8E
Shreve, imported in the Luke Voit-Gio Gallegos trade, and by far the person who's become the least significant to their respective clubs, posted negligible stats this year; a 9.00 ERA over just a pair of innings in three appearances, beginning 7/17 against Pittsburgh.
While Gallegos has become a top reliever for the Cards (and an exceptional strander of runners), and Voit has emerged as the Yankees' hard hit ball king at first base, Shreve hasn't been much to write home about. He was also DFA'd in the spring, as well, when Matt Wieters was initially brought aboard.
Gio Gallegos has, including this afternoon's game, stranded 25 of the 28 runners he's inherited this season. That is the best among a group of #Cardinals relievers who maroon runners well: https://t.co/mtkVOC9bdd #stlcards #MLB

Something tells me that Cardinals fans will use more time eagerly anticipating the Matt Carpenter news than they will bemoaning the loss of Shreve.
