VIDEO: Cardinals' Offseason Acquisition Matthew Liberatore Showcased Nasty Curveball in Spring Debut
By Jerry Trotta
The St. Louis Cardinals' prized offseason acquisition, left-handed prospect Matthew Liberatore, made his much-anticipated Spring Training debut on Monday. The 20-year-old hurler didn't exactly impress, but he showed flashes that reinforced the hype that he's garnered from MLB scouts. One of those flares came on a devastating curveball that utterly bamboozled a Marlins hitter.
My goodness that was a beauty.
Liberatore was charged with five runs in his debut, conceding three hits and three walks, alongside a wild pitch and balk violation. That's certainly an outing to forget, but the Cards are just going to have to take with the good with the bad as the youngster matures.
This curveball definitely goes in the "good' category.
