Cardinals' Miles Mikolas Could Miss Part of Spring Training Due to Injury

The start of Spring Training is usually a time filled with excitement, but when players are already dealing with injuries it certainly dampens the mood.
That could be the case for St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas, who is already battling a flexor injury in February that's been affecting him since the end of the team's playoff run.
Mikolas had soreness at times last season. At end of playoffs, had PRP injection and was prescribed rest. Threw bullpen, now has a familiar soreness along flexor. Is likely headed for an MRI for greater clarity. #cardinals https://t.co/EKGRv4gxYu

As a result, he could miss a portion of Spring Training.
Mikolas signed a four-year extension with the Cardinals last year and finished with a 4.16 ERA in 182 innings of work. He made two postseason starts and allowed only two earned runs across 12 innings.
Mike Shildt says they are monitoring the workload for Miles Mikolas this spring as he works back from a flexor tendon issue in the offseason. Not UCL related. But not a lot set in stone regarding his timeline for when he will be good to go for spring games.

There's too much money invested in Mikolas to rush him back in any way. That may mean shutting him down for the time being as he regains his strength because we've seen how nagging and significant flexor injuries can be.
It's unfortunate the Cards and Mikolas are already dealing with this at the onset of camp, but at this point it's better for all parties to be safe rather than sorry.
