Cardinals Place 3 Prospects in Baseball America's New Top 100 Rankings
By Scott Rogust
It's a new calendar year, which means the baseball world awaits the new prospect rankings lists, with the most noteworthy being Baseball America's Top 100. St. Louis Cardinals faithful have plenty to cheer about, this time around, placing three young stars on the list.
Outfielder Dylan Carlson (No. 10), newly-imported left-handed pitcher Matthew Liberatore (No. 42), and third baseman Nolan Gorman (No. 55) have all made the 2020 edition of the Baseball America Top 100.
Carlson came out of nowhere last season, unranked by Baseball America prior to the season, but finished the year ranked 16th. Now, he comes into the 2020 season 10th overall. In the minors, Carlson batted .292 with 26 home runs and 68 RBI.
Liberatore is the newest addition to the Cardinals pipeline after the team traded Jose Martinez to the Tampa Bay Rays. At Single-A last season, Liberatore accumulated a 6-2 record and 3.10 ERA, alongside 76 strikeouts in 78.1 innings pitched.
However, Liberatore may not be a member of the Cardinals organization for long. The lefty has been linked to trades for Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts and Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado.
Gorman is known for his arm strength, making playing third base seamless for him. In the minors last year, Gorman batted .248 with 15 homers and 62 RBI.
The Cardinals' top three prospects were adequately recognized by the prestigious Baseball America list. But the question remains if they will remain with the team, or end up traded for a big star.
