The Arizona Cardinals used the first overall pick in April's NFL Draft select Oklahoma quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray. Even though the team traded up last year to select Josh Rosen, Murray was believed to be a better scheme fit for new head coach Kliff Kingsbury's air raid offense.

There's plenty of excitement surrounding Murray's skillset during OTAs-- so much so that various members of the Cardinals organization are already comparing the rising rookie quarterback to reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.

"You could compare it to that. It's very unique, for sure," said wide receiver Christian Kirk, per Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic. "I've talked about it before. Obviously, everyone knows what he can do with his legs, but what he's able to do with his arm and just the way it comes off his hand. It's never a duck; it's always a spiral.

"It's just so quick coming off his hands and the ball is usually never late and it's usually never underthrown."

Even Kingsbury added to the hype, as he coached Mahomes during his collegiate career at Texas Tech.

"It's just a quick, efficient release," Kingsbury said of Murray, via the Cardinals' official website. "He can drop it down. [Mahomes] was the same way and is the same way. They can drop it down and not lose accuracy, not lose touch. They're so used to throwing from different platforms, different angles in baseball and it just translates over to football for them."

Yes, Murray did display a killer arm while throwing on the run at Oklahoma, but expectations need to be tempered a bit. The Cardinals are talking about Murray's arm during voluntary workouts, during which players are unpadded and wearing shorts.

The right time to make the Mahomes comparisons is during the regular season, where Murray will play against NFL defenses. As of now, it's way, way too early to call Kyler Murray the next MVP. And that should go without saying.
