The Redbirds will aim to bounce back from Wednesday's dismal three-hit performance. Key to a turnaround will be third baseman Matt Carpenter. He's batting below the Mendoza line this year, and is sporting a paltry .656 OPS. Paul Goldschmidt, on the other hand, will attempt to expand upon his recent 10-for-26 tear.
“The Cardinals need to get Matt Carpenter going in the leadoff spot. If that doesn’t happen very soon, the resurgent Dexter Fowler (and his .405 OBP) warrants a return to his longtime spot at the top of the order...” writes @miklasz https://t.co/bh6eiewDM9

The 37-year-old Adam Wainwright (3-3, 4.15 ERA) will start for St. Louis. He was brilliant in his last outing against the Pirates, tossing seven innings of one-run baseball with 8 strikeouts to boot.

Top prospect Austin Riley remains in the order to build on a strong MLB debut in which he deposited his first career hit over the fence for a home run. Naturally a third baseman, he's back in left field to prove to Brian Snitker and Co. that he's got versatility to spare.
What an amazing moment for Austin Riley and #Braves fans. Going to enjoy this one for a while.

On the mound, the Braves will roll out a veteran of their own in Julio Teheran (2-4, 4.26 ERA). He's been on a hot streak lately, allowing just one run in 12 innings in his two previous starts.
