Pitcher Jack Flaherty (4-5) will get the start and attempt to have some success before the All-Star break, as he currently has a 5.94 ERA in his last seven starts. In his last start, Flaherty allowed four earned runs with four walks on seven hits through just four and two-thirds innings.

Pitcher Jeff Samardzija (5-7) will get the start on Sunday, as he builds off his last outing against the San Diego Padres, where he went eight strong innings and allowed just two earned runs with six strikeouts. His last start against the Cards came last year, where he allowed three earned runs in just five innings.
