Carlos Gonzalez Oddly Owns Cubs Over Wild Card Loss Before Debut With Team
By Adam Weinrib
Stuck in the MLB's version of purgatory in 2019, Carlos Gonzalez sits firmly among the very good, yet aging players who didn't get a fair shake this offseason.
Instead of the short-term deal he was likely worthy of, CarGo instead had to hook on with the Indians on a minor-league pact, then found himself DFA'd once more. Now, he's hitting fifth for the Cubs in his team debut, right in the thick of a pennant race.
For some reason, however, the media decided to ask him about the last time he visited Wrigley Field: the 2018 Wild Card Game, a devastating memory for the locals. And no, Gonzalez did not hold back about Colorado's mentality entering that game.
Geez, those 2018 Cubs had a family! And you'll have to meet them at a banquet or something soon, because you're now on that team!
There's no doubting Chicago's offense looked listless in that affair, shortly after losing a Game 162 divisional tiebreaker on their own turf to the Brewers, too. The idea that the Rockies attacked, though, is revisionist history; the game trudged on tied at one run apiece until the 13th.
