Carson Wentz Comments on Eagles' Jadeveon Clowney Interest After Controversial Hit From 2019 Playoffs
By Mark Powell
Carson Wentz's season ended in injury, as the Eagles QB suffered a concussion in Philly's Wild Card round loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Wentz was on the receiving end of a tough hit from Jadeveon Clowney, but he holds no ill will. Turns out, the North Dakota State product will take all the help he can get, even if it means dropping potential grudges at the door.
“Listen, at the end of the day, I’ll trust Howie with that,” Wentz said, per NBC Sports, regarding the team's potential pursuit of Clowney. “That play happened, it is what it is. That’s football. It was an unfortunate way to end the season for me personally, but I have respect for Jadeveon, he’s a heck of a player.”
Wentz continued to express that he did not take the hit personally, and he'd be more than willing to move forward should Clowney sign in Philly. Nonetheless, Philly becoming a match for Clowney has much more to do with financial obligations than personal relationships.
Clowney's price tag has yet to drop on any potential deal, and the Eagles are estimated to have just about $5 million in cap space, per spotrac.
Unless Wentz puts his money where his mouth is, Clowney heading to the City of Brotherly Love remains unlikely.
