Case Keenum Injury Puts Dwayne Haskins in Impossible Situation and the Redskins Are Ruining Him
By Scott Rogust
The Washington Redskins have set the bar in terms of dysfunction throughout the season. That reached a fever pitch on Thursday night.
Washington spent the short week preparing for the Minnesota Vikings with Case Keenum as the team's starter. During the game in Minnesota, however, Keenum took a nasty hit to the head at the end of the first half. After evaluation, Keenum was ruled out with a concussion.
Entering in relief of Keenum? First round pick Dwayne Haskins, who once again enters an undesirable situation.
Haskins was selected 15th overall by the team, as owner Dan Snyder was enamored by the Ohio State product. However, reports later circulated that Jay Gruden and the remainder of the coaching staff didn't want to select him.
The 22-year-old has been set up for failure from the start. In Week 4 against the New York Giants, Keenum put up a dud of a performance, resulting in Gruden caving in and putting in Haskins. The thing is, Haskins never took first-team reps in practices leading up to the game.
As a result, Haskins struggled against a poor Giants defense due to the lack of chemistry with the Redskins starters. Haskins went 9-for-17 for just 107 yards and three interceptions in his debut.
On Thursday night, Haskins enters the exact same situation, essentially being fed to the wolves without proper practice reps.
If the Washington Redskins keep doing this, Haskins will have difficulties progressing at the professional level.
