VIDEO: Casey Mize Bounces Back With Nasty Outing for Tigers
By Michael Luciano
After a sluggish start to Spring Training, Casey Mize finally showed why the Detroit Tigers have placed such a great deal of responsibility on his right shoulder. The former Auburn star and 2018's No. 1 overall pick completely dealt against the Toronto Blue Jays, as his running fastball and unhittable splitter couldn't be touched by Toronto's lineup.
Mize, who is known first and foremost for his filthy split, was seen pumping his fastball up to 97, which is higher than where he usually sat in the minor leagues last season.
Mize put together a 1-2-3 inning against the Blue Jays, throwing just 15 pitches and recording two strikeouts. If everything goes as planned, we might see Mize in the big leagues as soon as the 2020 season.
The present in Detroit might be as bleak as bleak can be, but Tigers fans can rest easy knowing that an army of talented prospects, Mize chief among them, will be coming in the years to follow.
