Cavan Biggio to Start and Play Second Base in Major League Debut Friday
By Parker White
Just a few weeks after Vlad Jr. finally arrived, the Toronto Blue Jays have decided to call up another son of a Hall of Famer, Cavan Biggio.
And they're not bringing him up just to watch the game.
The son of Craig will start and play second base Friday night against the San Diego Padres in his MLB debut, per manager Charlie Montoya.
Biggio, 24, will make MLB history Friday night, as he joins fellow rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to form the first set of teammates to be sons of Hall of Famers.
Of course, it might not be long until they are joined by another son of a great MLB player. Infielder Bo Bichette, the son of former All-Star Dante Bichette, is at Triple-A and is the Blue Jays' second-best prospect in the system.
Biggio was not as heralded of a prospect as Guerrero Jr. or Bichette, but the former fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame was tearing up Triple-A, slashing .307/.445/.504 with six home runs and 26 RBI.
Biggo can play all over the diamond, but Friday night, he'll man his natural position of second base. When more of the young guard gets called up, don't be surprised if he winds up playing all over the field.
