Yankees Still Undecided on CC Sabathia and Aaron Hicks Making ALCS Roster
By Sam Dunn
Fans of the New York Yankees surely felt in the back of their minds that when CC Sabathia walked off the field following the final regular season game of his career, there was a real chance that his career was over. That possibility increased when Aaron Boone left the soon-to-retire big man off the team's roster for the ALDS against the Twins.
But now, ahead of the AL Championship Series against the Astros, Sabathia has not yet been ruled out of participating. The same goes for outfielder Aaron Hicks.
The Yankees' starters in the first three games of the series are confirmed, with Masahiro Tanaka and James Paxton getting the nod for the first two games in Houston before Luis Severino takes the ball at Yankee Stadium for Game 3. But if and when a starter can't go deep and some sneaky long relief is needed, any team could do a lot worse than an honest-to-goodness workhorse like CC.
If this really is the end of the line for Sabathia, he won't hang his head. He has a terrific chance to make the Hall of Fame one day, and will still earn himself a ring if the Bronx Bombers end up going all the way.
But what a treat it would be to see him trot out there at least one more time at Yankee Stadium. The roar would be seismic.
