CC Sabathia Confirms He'll Wear a Yankees Cap on Hall of Fame Plaque
By Parker White
New York Yankees veteran southpaw CC Sabathia is retiring at season's end after 19 years as one of the best starters of his era. Instead of just living in the moment, Sabathia is already looking towards the future.
The former AL Cy Young Award winner and 2009 World Series champion has certainly put himself in the Hall of Fame conversation, and if you were wondering what cap he'd have on his plaque, it's going to be the Yankees.
"I think being here now for 11 years and winning the World Series here, I think it will be a Yankee hat," Sabathia told late-night host Seth Meyers Monday.
This isn't shocking. Sabathia will have spent 11 of his 19 seasons in the Bronx, and even though he came up with the Indians and was super dominant during his eight-year tenure in Cleveland (as well as taking the Brewers to the '08 NLDS as the best rental...ever), Sabathia will always be remembered as a Yankee.
Of course, are we sure Sabathia is a slam dunk Hall of Famer?
Sabathia did reach some impressive milestones this season, including 250 wins and 3,000 strikeouts. That should be more than good enough to put himself over the top, but he does own a career ERA of 3.73.
