CC Sabathia Hopes to Rejoin Yankees on ALCS Roster
By Ryan Giglio
Leaving CC Sabathia off of the ALDS roster was tough for the New York Yankees.
Both Sabathia, who is retiring after the season, and the Yankees would love for the lefty to play a role during the playoffs as they make a run for a World Series title.
The veteran was unavailable against the Twins in the ALDS due to a left shoulder injury, but is hopeful to return to the squad for the ALCS.
His fate on the roster will be determined after a bullpen session on Wednesday. The hefty lefty has not pitched since Sept. 24. It's unknown what role Sabathia will have on the roster if he's determined healthy enough to make it.
In 2017, Sabathia gave up five earned runs with 19 strikeouts in 19 innings against the Indians and eventual World Series-winning Astros. Whether he starts or comes from the bullpen, the 39-year-old has proven that he knows how to pitch in big games.
The Yankees will face either Houston or Tampa Bay in ALCS starting on Oct. 12 after sweeping the Twins in the ALDS and they could certainly use another veteran arm on the roster.
