Entering 2019 with the plan to retire at the end of the campaign, CC Sabathia had nothing left to prove. He had overcome numerous trials and tribulations during his MLB career, and this was his one last shot at winning another World Series.

He has done more than enough to garner the respect of not only New York Yankees fans, but baseball fans everywhere. He's given blood, sweat and tears to the game ever since he debuted back in 2001.

And in Game 4 of the ALCS, he only solidified his legendary status further by trying to pitch with a partially dislocated shoulder.

That's the guy that countless players and managers have raved about for nearly two decades. That's the guy who's a sure-fire Hall of Famer. That's the guy who has given everything to baseball and was even willing to give a little bit more on a damp, forgettable Thursday night in the Bronx.

There's no denying that he deserved a better end than that. In what was likely his final appearance on an MLB mound, he was given the tall task of locking down a hot Astros offense with his team trailing late in the game. But even though he wasn't able to stay in, he most certainly answered the call with gusto that only a veteran of his nature could.

And when he was forced off of the mound by the trainer, he received a well-deserved standing ovation from the crowd.

Trying to pitch through a dislocated shoulder is something only Sabathia would even consider, let alone do. The man is an absolute soldier. He's been as reliable as they come in his decade in New York. He helped bring the Yankees their 27th ring in 2009. He's shown grit and determination year in and year out throughout his career, and for that, he deserves all of the respect and admiration in the world.
