CC Sabathia's Earnest Comments After Being Left off ALDS Roster Will Break Your Heart
By Parker White
If you're CC Sabathia, who is retiring at the end of the season, you no doubt wanted to compete on the biggest stage in October.
Sadly, he won't get that chance in the ALDS against the Minnesota Twins, as the Yankee front office and manager Aaron Boone have decided not to have him on the roster. As you can imagine, Sabathia was asked about it. His honesty about the situation is nothing short of heartbreaking:
"You guys know me, it's tough," Sabathia said. "Obviously being here and not being able to participate in playoffs is rough but I didn't want to put the team in jeopardy. I want the best opportunity for this team to win a championship. I feel like we have a good opportunity, so I don't want to be selfish."
On top of Sabathia's shoulder being banged up, it's not like he's had a great final season. In 23 games (22 starts), Sabathia went 5-8 with a 4.95 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.
You can't help but feel bad for the 39-year-old hurler, who has done so much for this franchise. Hopefully, if the Yankees advance, he can find his way on the ALCS roster and prove his value.
