CC Sabathia Was Furious After Justin Verlander Joked About Astros’ Sign-Stealing Scandal

The BBWAA dinner took place in New York over the weekend in what was supposed to be a classic, fun event. Turns out, there was some drama.
Players on hand included both Justin Verlander and CC Sabathia. Verlander, currently dealing with the Houston Astros cheating scandal, decided to make an ill-timed joke.
The timing could not have been worse.
Verlander just joked that "everyone knows the Astros are technologically analytically advanced." CC, 5 feet away, looks freakin' pissed.

Few people found that funny. And, no one can blame Sabathia for being furious. Trying to find humor in a situation that could have cost players a chance at a World Series is not exactly classic comedy. What was Verlander thinking?

Sabathia has every right to be angry. Verlander is lucky a ton of Dodgers players weren't on hand, otherwise there may have been quite the scene.
Verlander clearly lacks self awareness if he thinks jokes like this are funny. The best thing any Astros player can do at this point is just not talk about the situation. Anything other than an apology just causes frustration.
