VIDEO: Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Mike Tyson's First Professional Fight and KO

Today marks a momentous day in the history of boxing that changed the trajectory of the sport forever. On March 6, 1985 -- 35 years ago today -- an 18-year-old up-and-coming boxer by the name of Mike Tyson made his professional debut and earned his first win and knockout in a ridiculously one-sided affair against Hector Mercedes.
Mercedes, who entered the fight looking for his first win as well, didn't stand a chance. The man who came to be known as Iron Mike beat him to a pulp, coming out as the victor in just one minute and 47 seconds.
With that victory, Tyson set out on a journey to etch his name into the history books -- and he did precisely that. He spent the next 20 years on a tumultuous journey, fighting to the tune of a 50-6-2 record. He didn't lose until his 38th match, when he was stunned by Buster Douglas in the Tokyo Dome in 1990.
Though he faced plenty of trials and tribulations in his career, Tyson's memorable quest for glory started 35 years ago in the most typical way possible for him: utter domination. When all's said and done, that ferocious power and skill will be what we remember him for.
