Celtics Reportedly Interested in Thunder Big Man Steven Adams
By Brendan Azoff
After seeing both Kyrie Irving and Al Horford refuse to pick up their player options and instead head for free agency, the Boston Celtics have expressed interest in Oklahoma City Thunder's center Steven Adams in an attempt to stay competitive. Adams is under contract for two more seasons in OKC, so the Celtics would have to offer assets in order to acquire the sturdy enforcer.
The New Zealand-born Adams averaged nearly a double-double last season, posting a 13.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He is a talented big man who continually proves just how valuable he is both on the court and in the locker room, as Adams has showed his tenacity both on the glass and defensively. While not a shooter on the offensive end, he's reliable around the rim and put up a true shooting percentage of 59 last season.
The Celtics were not willing to give up Jayson Tatum or a giant pile of first-round picks for Anthony Davis, so the likelihood that they'd overextend to land Adams is essentially nil. But if and when Horford leaves, they need a replacement, and Adams offers a significant improvement over what Aron Baynes would have offered.
