Chad Johnson Offers to Play for Bengals During Training Camp After AJ Green's Injury
By Kevin Aquino
The Cincinnati Bengals faced a bit of bad press after AJ Green suffered an ankle injury, and fellow wide receiver Tyler Boyd complained that the turf they were practicing on was not up to standards. With Green's status up in the air for the season opener, a former star has offered his services to the team.
Chad Johnson volunteered to suit up for the Bengals during training camp, where he played from 2001 to 2010, in order to "preserve the starting receivers' legs."
Green is expected be out 6-8 weeks with torn ligaments in his ankle, which could force the Bengals to play their Week 1 matchup without him. In order to protect the team's other wideouts, Ochocinco passionately volunteered to help out.
Johnson makes an enticing offer, claiming not to need a contract, but simply a McDonald's coupon book in exchange for his services. If the Bengals are in desperate need of extra bodies, their former star is game.
Johnson hasn't been on an NFL roster since 2012, when he was a part of the Miami Dolphins. 2012 is also the year that Johnson went back to his original surname after going by "Chad Ochocinco" since 2008.
Since then, Johnson has made appearances in the Canadian Football League and the Liga de Futbol Americano de Mexico. He hasn't formally retired from the sport but Johnson hasn't played pro or semi-pro football since 2017.
It would be awesome to see Ochocinco back in a Bengals uniform, even if it is just for training camp.
