Chargers Activate Star Safety Derwin James From Injured Reserve
By Sean Facey

Though their chances at a playoff berth are slim at best, the Chargers (4-7) are set to get a massive boost on defense that could help them at least play spoiler down the stretch.
Star safety Derwin James is set to return from injured reserve after missing the first 12 weeks of the 2019 season with a foot injury.
Reinforcements on the way: The #Chargers have activated star safety Derwin James, as well as Adrian Phillips. If they are going to make a run, these dudes will help.

James was nothing short of brilliant in his rookie campaign last year. After Los Angeles selected him with the 17th overall pick in the draft, he started in all 16 games in the secondary, snagging three interceptions and logging 3.5 sacks.
His efforts earned him both Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors, and many rightfully expected more of the same from him in 2019 prior to the foot injury he suffered in training camp.

Quarterbacks in the AFC West were lucky that they didn't have to face him early in the season, but it that luck is about to run out. James is going to once again create headaches for opposing offenses.
Also returning for the Bolts is DB and All-Pro special teams player Adrian Phillips. He featured in two games this season before hitting IR due to a forearm injury.
It might be a case of too little, too late for the Chargers and their playoff chances, but if nothing else, it gives the fans something to watch for the rest of the season and even more to look forward to in 2020.
