Chargers RB Melvin Gordon Officially Ending Holdout
By Jerry Trotta
A report broke Wednesday morning that disgruntled tailback Los Angeles Chargers Melvin Gordon was inching closer to ending his holdout.
Well, that reality came to fruition just a few short hours later as NFL insider Ian Rapoport has reported the two-time Pro Bowler plans to return to the franchise on Thursday, though he will NOT play Sunday against the Dolphins.
It was always expected that Gordon would return to the team at some point in 2019, but the fact that it's as early as Week 4 is genuinely stunning.
The Wisconsin product hasn't reported to the Chargers all offseason in search of a contract that would make him one of the NFL's highest-paid RBs alongside Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott, David Johnson, and Le'Veon Bell -- all of whom recently received massive deals.
Los Angeles was even reportedly seeking trade partners for Gordon, though no true contender ever really emerged.
We're just relieved that we can put this saga behind us. Gordon clearly missed football and realized that LA wouldn't buy into his demands, especially with Austin Ekeler running wild.
He'll have to wait, but in the meantime, the 1-2 Chargers, desperate for a spark, have welcomed back one of their best players.
