VIDEO: Charles Barkley Tells Klay Thompson to His Face Warriors Won't Make Playoffs
By Jerry Trotta
Klay Thompson, still recovering from offseason ACL surgery, joined Ernie Johnson and the rest of the TNT crew on air during halftime of the Golden State Warriors' season-opening clash versus the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night. The five-time All-Star was discussing his rehab process and if he believed he could return at some point this year. The sharpshooter asserted that his Warriors' championship window is still open, and will be into the future. That assessment didn't sit well with the outspoken Charles Barkley, who swiftly responded by telling Klay that Golden State's window is "shut" and that they won't even make the playoffs this season.
Leave it to Chuck to go off with both barrels on a team still adjusting to life without Kevin Durant and the injured Thompson despite only 24 minutes of in-season footage to work with at the time.
Yes, the Western Conference is as deep as ever, but Barkley based his analysis solely on the fact that Golden State "can't score enough." That's hard to fathom given that they have Steph Curry and D'Angelo Russell in the fold, but hey, sure.
We love Barkley, but did he not realize that Dubs were squaring off against, on paper, the most prolific defensive unit in the entire NBA? The Clippers are going to wreak havoc on that end of the floor all season long, to say nothing of their scoring ability once Paul George comes back.
It's Chuck in a nutshell: delivering a scorching-hot take backed by impulsive and premature conclusions.
Basketball is officially BACK, ladies and gents.
